'Alba Matter' is a play on words.
Whether or not it's a particularly good play on words, and subsequently an appropriate name for a website about Scottish football, is for others to decide. Nevertheless, it is our name, and here is our inaugural blog post to explain why.
In Scottish Gaelic, 'Alba' means Scotland.
Medically, it also means the white matter of the brain (and spinal cord; see above).
Put these together and you have Scotland and the brain, or to apply the brain's pre-eminent function to this burgeoning definition, you have Scotland and 'thought'.
Eventually this wee jaunt along the not-very-interesting semantic esplanade (think Largs but colder, and without the sea or Nardinis') will lead to thinking about Scotland and all that entails. Quite near the summit of this pile of tartan, nessie and whisky... is football, or as Scots say but seldom write, fitba'.
This is a website for thinking about Scottish football in an unapologetically optimistic fashion.
